However, have you never wondered what is the story of this strange name "Mims"?.. Here is the answer.

The origin of the word meme

You might be surprised to learn that the word meme originally referred to something that had nothing to do with funny pictures at all.

It is an emerging term coined by the British biologist, Richard Dawkins in his book The Selfish Gene in 1976.

According to the Spanish BBC Mundo website, Dawkins was trying to understand why certain behaviors are common in human societies that seem illogical from an evolutionary perspective.

For example, caring for the arts does not seem like a useful behavior to spread your genetics, but it is, as we all know, a widespread behavior that has existed from time immemorial until now.

Dawkins explains that we have two types of information processors. The first is the genome, or genetic system, which is the process by which an individual's traits are passed on to his offspring.

The second type is the brain and nervous system, which allow processing of cultural information received through learning, imitation or assimilation.

According to Dawkins, cultural information (memes) are also reproduced, so the meme will be the behavioral equivalent of a gene in terms of the culture's inheritance (ideas).

Some of these ideas are incredibly powerful, for example, Dawkins believes that religion is the perpetual meme, because it is transmitted so easily.

For a meme to survive and spread, it must have traits that give it an advantage over other memes.
